About the event
Children bring their whole cultural world into the playroom—identity, family stories, community norms, language, values, and experiences of belonging or marginalization. This 3-hour webinar explores how play therapists can respond with cultural humility, attunement, and intentionality. Through experiential activities, case examples, reflective prompts, and skill practice, participants will examine how cultural and social factors shape play expressions, therapeutic relationships, and treatment planning. Emphasis is placed on navigating cultural mismatches, supporting diverse family
structures, honoring cultural meanings in symbolic play, and addressing systemic factors that impact child wellbeing. Participants will also explore their own cultural identities and implicit biases as part of ethical and competent play therapy practice. This workshop integrates ACA ethics, APT Best Practices, and culturally responsive frameworks to help clinicians create safe, inclusive, and affirming therapy spaces where all children can play, express, and heal.
